It’s hard to believe it but today is Memorial Day. First of course we want to remember our veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country so we can live our lives in the land of the free. We owe them all a huge debt of
gratitude. Memorial Day also signals the official kick off of summer and the 80+ degree temperatures seem to agree. How about taking a trip to the Shenandoah Valley area in Virginia. For all you city people who can’t totally let
go, Virginia seems to be the 7 eleven capital of the world so you can have your slurpees, scratch offs and everything else you love about home. This time I wanted to suggest another fun, free, family activity. Take a bike rack on
your trip and take your bikes with you(if you can’t there are places to rent from) There are many trails you can ride on including one called the scenic byway in Luray Virginia. This can be pretty close to your accomodations.
riding is a way to get exercise while going slow enough to appreciate the wonderful area and get a feel for local flavor. People tend to be really friendly and helpful and it will bring back
nostalgic memories of the way it used to be
in the old days. Also when you ride you can discover the small local parks with playgrounds that your kids are sure to love. Two years ago one of the locals pointed us to one of these and
we have been going back ever since. So as we get set for another great summer try picking activities that will make great lasting memories.
